Volkswagen plans to release a variety of models using plug-in hybrid technology in 2013 and 2014, the German automaker announced at the 32nd International Vienna Motor Symposium.

Although VW is keeping details close and has not revealed which models will be released, the company previously has displayed a Golf TwinDrive plug-in hybrid and an Audi A3 E-tron plug-in prototype. It also announced a year ago that it was preparing for plug-in versions of the Golf and Jetta.

“The electric car will impact the future of individual mobility in crucial ways — and Volkswagen is spearheading this technology. Over the mid-term, the plug-in hybrid offers great potential, because it combines the best of two worlds in one vehicle,” said VW Chairman Martin Winterkorn at the Vienna conference.
